Umatilla, the Gateway to the Ocala National Forest, is located
in northern Lake County, Florida and offers many outdoor activities
such as boating, fishing, camping and hiking. Nearby
Alexander Springs features the southern end of the Florida
Trail, an unpaved hiking trail 60 miles long.
Umatilla was founded in 1856 by Nathan J. Trowell. The
name was taken from an Oregon town of the same name, and Indian
name meaning “laughing waters”. The area
was incorporated on November 8, 1904.

The Friends of the Library host a City-Wide Yard Sale each year on the first Saturday in March. The date for this event is March 7, 2009. Contact the Umatilla Public Library at (352)669-3284 for more information.
Umatilla is home to the Florida Black Bear Festival, a fun and educational annual event. This year's festival is being held on March 28, 2009.
The Cracker Christmas Parade and Dog Jog is an annual event that is being held on November 21, 2009. An Arts & Crafts festival in Cadwell Park follows the parade.
