Chain Saw Carvings - March 2017 - Mark Rice

Cadwell Park - Mark Rice/Photographs by Betsy Reed

Chain Saw Artist Mark Rice
Mark Rice started his career in chainsaw sculpture in the 1980's while waiting on trucks to pick up leftover timber cleared for Walt Disney World. His first carving was meant to be a bear, but was mistaken for a pig.

Mark was among 17 artists selected to create artwork from the charred remains of The Senator, an historic 3,500 year old baldcypress tree in Big Tree Park in Seminole County that was burned in 2012. Mark created chainsaw carvings of a bench with relief carvings from a portion of The Senator.

Mark Rice is based in Deltona, Florida. Please visit his Carving and Chainsaw Center website.
